Privacy policy

Now is a time tracker made by Weiting Chen. This policy explains what the app and this website do with your information. The short version: your tracking data stays on your phone, and the only thing that leaves it is anonymous usage statistics, which you can switch off.
What stays on your device
Everything you track lives on your phone and nowhere else:
- Categories you create, their names, colours and icons.
- Sessions: which category was running and when.
- Notes you attach to sessions.
- Settings: thresholds, quiet hours, theme, display time zone.
Now has no account and no server for this data. We cannot see it, and if you delete the app it is gone. Exports you create (CSV or JSON) are files on your device that you control.
Watches
If you use Now on an Apple Watch, Wear OS watch or Pebble, the category list and the running session travel directly between your phone and the watch over the platform's own link (WatchConnectivity, the Wear OS Data Layer, or the Pebble app). They do not pass through us.
Notifications
Threshold reminders and daily-total alerts are scheduled locally on your device. No notification service of ours is involved.
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand which parts of Now are used and where it breaks, the app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, an analytics service. This is what an event contains:
- What happened, such as "app opened", "session started", "threshold set", "export used". Never the name of a category, the content of a note, or the times of your sessions.
- A random identifier created on first launch. It is not tied to your name, email or device identifiers, and it is reset if you reinstall the app.
- Device model, operating system version, app version and language.
- A coarse location (country or region) that PostHog derives from the network address of the request. The address itself is not stored by us.
You can turn this off at any time in Settings under "Share anonymous usage statistics". When it is off, nothing is sent. Usage data is kept for 12 months and then deleted.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, a report may be sent through the same analytics service. It contains the technical state of the app at the time of the crash, and the same device information listed above. It does not contain your tracking data.
Features that are not available yet
Sync between phones and a weekly email summary are planned. Both will require you to sign in and opt in, and both will only ever be on if you turn them on. This policy will be updated before either is released, and the app will show you what changes.
This website
uptonow.app is a static site hosted on Firebase Hosting, which logs requests (including network addresses) for operational purposes under Google's privacy terms. The site counts page views and clicks on the store badges with Umami, an open-source analytics tool that we host ourselves. It sets no cookies, stores no network addresses, and cannot follow you to other sites; it records the page, the referrer, your browser and country, and nothing that identifies you.
Children
Now is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices and your rights
You can turn usage statistics off in Settings, export or delete everything by deleting the app, and contact us to ask what, if anything, is associated with your anonymous identifier. Depending on where you live you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA; write to us and we will honour them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will tell you on the next launch and the date at the top of this page will move.
